James John Kelly, 72, of Toms River, passed away on January 23, 2017. Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield www.higginsandbonner.com A funeral service will be held at 7:30 PM.
Mr. Kelly was a patrolman with the Elizabeth Police Department and was a Patrol Training Officer. After retirement, he worked as Head of Security at Sealand Maersk at Port Elizabeth.
He was born in Elizabeth and graduated from St. Patrick’s H.S. where he was a member of the 1961 state championship basketball team. He was also a member of St. Patrick’s Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Kelly lived in Elizabeth and maintained a dual residence in Toms River before moving there exclusively.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude, his son, Brian and his parents, William and Ann Kelly. Mr. Kelly is survived by his sons, Darrin and James and his wife, Clarissa, his granddaughter, Kelsey, Ashley and Keira and his brother, William.
