Gerard W. Cadigan, Sr.

 Gerard W. Cadigan, Sr., 84, of Rahway passed away on February 13, 2017.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia.   Gerard was born in Elizabeth, NJ and was a Sheriff’s Officer in Union County for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of The Knights of Columbus Council No. 253 in Elizabeth.  Gerard resided in Linden with his family for most of his life.  He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Audrey Ann (Hartmann) Cadigan.  Gerard is survived by his four loving children, Gerard Cadigan, Jr., Ken Cadigan, his wife Diane Spillane, Joanne Cadigan-Peters, her husband Bruce Peters, and Nancy Cadigan, his four grandchildren, Alex and Michael Cadigan and Erin and Grace Peters. He is also survived by his sister Mary Faughnan, his brother Richard and his wife June and his in-laws Mary Demeter and Charles and Barbara Hartmann. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Arc, Ocean County Chapter, 815 Cedar Bridge Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701.
