George Arthur Knudsen

George Arthur Knudsen, 69, of Mountainside passed away on June 10, 2017, facing his longtime battle with cancer with courage and grace. Born in Bergen, Norway, he came to the U.S. as young boy settling in Seattle.  He lived there before moving to New Jersey in 1980.  George worked in Marketing for digital print systems companies, including Xerox, Ricoh, Konica, Konica-Minolta, Oce and Riso. He was also employed by Exxon Int’l in New York City.  He graduated from Seattle Pacific University and went on to do post-graduate work at Washington State Univ. and the Univ. of Oregon receiving master's degrees from both. He was a Merchant Marine veteran during the Vietnam War. George loved to travel and visited 33 countries. He found great joy in helping others and had a passion for gardening. A dedicated and devoted husband and most loving father.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Janine (Hollis) Knudsen, his son, Derek Van Derven, his daughter, Ashley Marie Knudsen, his brother, Gary Knudsen, his niece Bonnie, his nephew, Gavin, his brothers-in-law, Gary, David and Mark Hollis and his sister-in-law, Wendy Sanders and her husband, Billy.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knudsen Foundation Hope for the Homeless, inquires can be made directly to the Knudsen family. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield www.higginsandbonner.com.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM at The Presbyterian Church at New Providence, 1307 Springfield Ave., New Providence.
