After a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer, Gary Meserole died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 8, 2018 in Westfield, NJ at the age of 64.
Gary is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 40 years, Noreen Wickwire, his daughter, Callie Campbell (Colin), his son, Matthew (Elena Donald), his granddaughter, Pippa Reilly Campbell, his mother, Beverly, his sister, Barbara (Arthur Havighorst), his brother, Richard (Anita), his brother-in-law, Peter DeMayo (Christina), his mother-in-law, Noreen Alvyn, his brother-in-law, Steven Wickwire (Brenda) and his sister-in-law, Lorraine Wickwire. In addition, Gary will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, godchildren, and many friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Meserole, his sister, Cathye DeMayo, and his godmother, Irene Dunne.
Gary’s zest for life was contagious. He showered his family with love, laughs, and epic family travels. In recent years, trips included Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. Earlier in life, Gary spent a semester in Israel and worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Sultanate of Oman. Of all the places he traveled, time spent on Atlantique, Fire Island was the most precious. In addition to his love of the beach, Gary enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and rooting for the Yankees.
Gary retired in 2015 to pursue his love of golf, perfect his cornhole game, and travel the world searching for the endless summer to paddleboard and surf. Prior to his retirement, Gary served as Senior Vice President of Investments at Western World Insurance Company.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 from 4 to 8pm at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave. Westfield, NJ. The Mass of Christian Burial Service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018, at St. Helen’s RC Church, 1600 Rahway Ave., Westfield, NJ at 10am.
