Anne R Newcomb

Anne R. Newcomb, 58, passed away on Saturday, November 26th, 2016, at home surrounded by her family. Born to Barbara Nolan and the late Edward Reilly, she was a loving wife to Phil Newcomb for 34 years and a devoted mother to her children Meghan, Laura, and Catherine, and grandmother to Hektor.  She is also survived by her siblings:  Elizabeth, Karen, Kathleen, Rose, Erin, Cynthia, Christine, Maureen, Laura, Kevin, and Mark, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Anne grew up in Woodbury, NJ and at the age of 14, she and her family moved to Wilmington, DE, where she lived for 10 years before moving to New Jersey, eventually settling in Cranford for the last 29 years.  Anne loved playing tennis and bridge and reading a good book.  She was active in her community, volunteering as a CCD Teacher at St. Michael’s, a Girl Scout Troop Leader in Cranford, and a soccer coach at the Cranford Soccer Club.  

Anne attended high school at St. Mark’s in Wilmington, DE, graduated from the University of Delaware with her Bachelor’s in Business Administration, and received her Master’s in Library Science from Rutgers University.  Her career included finance-oriented roles at DuPont in Wilmington, DE, Citibank and Chase Manhattan Bank in NYC,  and she later volunteered as a bookkeeper at Primetime Day Care in Cranford, NJ, served as a court appointed special advocate for children at CASA of Union County, NJ, served on the board for Raphael’s Life House in Elizabeth, NJ, and worked as the accountant at St. Paul’s Church in Westfield, NJ.

Visitation will be held this Wednesday, November 30th, from 5p.m.-8p.m. at Higgins & Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.  Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 1st at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Cranford.  In lieu of flowers, any donations to an organization of your choosing in her name will be appreciated.
